Sup3r
Sharpen climate data to plan wind and solar power at a local scale.
Sup3r turns coarse weather and climate data into highly detailed data, in space and time, for wind and sunshine. The result is used for detailed energy system modelling. The software is released together with publicly available datasets.
And where does AI come in?
Generative adversarial networks learn, from high-resolution historical data, how large-scale weather patterns translate into local conditions, then apply that knowledge to global climate models. The project says it preserves physical accuracy while sharply cutting computing time and cost.
