SPARROW
A solar-powered station that watches wildlife in the most remote places and sends its readings by satellite.
SPARROW is a self-contained unit combining camera traps, acoustic monitors and environmental sensors. It runs off-grid on solar power, keeps its data when the link is down, and sends it through low-Earth-orbit satellites as soon as the link comes back.
And where does AI come in?
PyTorch-Wildlife models run on site: detection in images and sounds, species classification. The resulting information is then sent to researchers in near real time, even from regions with no network and no power grid.
